Sierra Energy’s largest combined commercial engagement to date comprises three projects in Connecticut and Florida expected to divert approximately 1,200 tons of municipal solid waste from landfills each day
DAVIS, Calif., September 30, 2026. Sierra Energy today announced its largest combined commercial engagement to date: an agreement to provide FastOx gasification technology and core equipment for three municipal solid waste-to-renewable natural gas projects being developed by ReNew Developers. The planned facilities, one in Connecticut and two in Florida, will each process 400 metric tons of municipal solid waste per day and together are expected to divert approximately 1,200 tons of waste from landfills daily once operational.
- Largest combined commercial engagement to date for Sierra Energy
- Three planned facilities, one in Connecticut and two in Florida, will each process 400 metric tons of municipal solid waste per day
- Sierra Energy will provide front-end engineering and design, FastOx gasification technology licenses, and core gasification equipment for all three projects
Sierra Energy will lead front-end engineering and design for each facility, license its proprietary FastOx gasification technology, and supply the core gasification equipment. The FastOx gasification technology converts municipal solid waste into synthesis gas without combustion. Each project is designed to upgrade that gas into pipeline-quality renewable natural gas.
The engagement advances Sierra Energy’s commercial deployment of FastOx gasification technology in the U.S. waste and renewable natural gas markets. It also addresses a practical challenge for communities and waste developers seeking alternatives to landfill disposal.
“This is Sierra Energy’s largest combined commercial engagement and an important step in expanding the use of FastOx gasification technology,” said Scott Kraynak, chief executive officer of Sierra Energy. “Together with ReNew Developers, we plan to put material otherwise headed to landfills to productive use across three projects, each designed to produce renewable natural gas.”
“Connecticut and Florida are running short of landfill space, Connecticut ships a growing share of its trash out of state, and cities, towns and haulers in both states pay more to dispose of it every year,” said Brian Carmody, Director of Finance & Development of ReNew Developers. “Sierra Energy’s FastOx gasification technology lets us handle that waste close to home at a lower, more predictable cost. From the same waste stream we can make renewable natural gas and hydrogen, capture the CO₂, and produce a clean slag that can replace traditional quarried aggregate and fill material in construction applications. We believe this can make Connecticut and Florida leaders in turning waste into fuel and building materials.”
“The part of this project we are proudest of is who it feeds,” said Carmody. “Part of the clean power we generate will run several indoor hydroponic farms, and we plan to donate many tons of fresh greens every year to food-insecure communities across Connecticut and Florida. Waste that used to be buried or shipped away will instead be turned into clean power to help feed hungry and undernourished neighbors in both states.”
About FastOx gasification technology
FastOx gasification technology is Sierra Energy’s proprietary gasification technology, adapted from blast-furnace metallurgy. It converts municipal solid waste, biomass, and other waste streams into particulate- and tar-free synthesis gas without combustion. That gas can be used to produce renewable natural gas, hydrogen, synthetic fuels, or electricity.
