Second-generation design targets broader waste-stream compatibility, lower capital requirements, and up to 12% greater thermal efficiency
FORT HUNTER LIGGETT, Calif., September 30, 2026. Sierra Energy today announced that it has completed its second-generation gasifier for its proprietary FastOx® gasification technology. The completed gasifier has been delivered to Sierra Energy’s Fort Hunter Liggett demonstration facility and is ready for installation. Installation and commissioning are targeted for the third quarter of 2027.

The second-generation gasifier reflects lessons from Sierra Energy’s engineering and operating work at Fort Hunter Liggett and is intended to provide three principal benefits:
- Broader waste-stream compatibility: The design is intended to accommodate a broader range of waste streams with less presorting.
- Lower capital requirements: The design is intended to reduce the capital required for future projects.
- Improved thermal efficiency: The design targets an improvement in thermal efficiency of up to 12% compared with the first-generation design.
“The second-generation design reflects what we have learned through our engineering and operating work at Fort Hunter Liggett,” said Paul Vergnani, chief operating officer of Sierra Energy. “Completing the gasifier is an important engineering milestone and advances our goal of making future projects more flexible, efficient, and economical to deploy.”
For project developers and municipalities, the design is intended to support more flexible and economical future waste-conversion projects. Installation and commissioning will provide operating data for evaluating the design’s projected performance.
